
Shikari Devi Temple Mythology
Shikari Devi Temple is a temple dedicated to Goddess Durga located in district Mandi of Himachal Pradesh. It is believed to be a temple of the era of pandavas. Legends aver that the Pandavas built the temple while wandering in the Himalayas during their exile, they used to meditate here. Even sage markendeya is said to have meditated here for a long time.
Shikari Devi Temple, Mandi is about 18 Kms from Janjehli and connected by a jeep able Forest road. it’s situated at an altitude of 3359 Mtr. Thick forests on the thanks to Shikari peak are amazing. Being the very best peak of Mandi District it’s also called Crown of Mandi. Vast green pastures, captivating sunrise and sunset, bird’s eye view of snow ranges make this place favourite to nature lovers. The place receives tons of snow during winters. The place are often approached from Karsog which is simply 21 Kms from Shikari Devi.
On the Shikari peak, there’s a roofless temple of Shikari Devi, the Goddess of hunters and this temple is claimed to be established (Sathapit) by Pandavas. It’s been observed that despite the very fact that temple has no roof, no snow is spotted in temple premises during winters when the whole region around this temple is roofed up to several feet by snow. Visitors can trek to Chindi, Karsog, Janjehli through different trek routes from Shikari. Adventurists can visit Kamrunag by undertaking each day long journey of 16 Kms by trekking the vast spread pastures on this hill top route with breathtaking scenic beauty and excellent calmness.
Uniqueness of Shikari Devi Temple/ Spiritual and Mystical Temple
The temple is roofless and it is said that no snowfall happens at the top of the temple whereas whole route is capped with lots and lots of (Snow) all over.
Best place for trekking/ Camping based trek
Shikari devi trek starts from janjheli. It’s dotted with pretty flower-bedecked meadows. The whole trek is an easy trail and can be completed within 2 day 1 night. One can also plan to Trek to Kamrunag from Shikari Devi.But it is not advisable without local guide, Both Kamrunag and Shikari Devi are camping based treks. One night camping at either of the places is recommended.
Where to Stay in Shikari devi?
There is no place to stay except a forest guest house but there are also advance booking is needed.there is also an HPTDC Trekker’s hostel near janjehli en route to shikari, you can also stay at janjheli, wildlife home stay, hotels, tree houses, you can do camping also. There is an 18 km motorable road from Janjheli to the foothills of Shikari Devi. It is situated at an altitude of 3359 Mtr. Thick forests on the way to Shikari peak are amazing. This is the highest peak in Mandi District; it is also called Crown of mandi.
Hire taxi. Rent a bike. Rent a Car from Shimla and Sundernagar to Shikari Devi temple
So I would suggest you should try bike riding on this route. If you own one, then that’s great. Otherwise you take one on rent from Shimla or sundernagar.

After you reach the foothill of Shikari Devi there are almost 602 stairs to climb up. This trek is a lifetime experience for those who love adventure.
This trek is suitable for everyone and kids aged 10 +.

Every year in Navratri a fair is held at Shikari Devi temple. People from every corner visits during this time.
