Kinnaur is the one of the twelve district of himachal Pradesh. It is also known as the “land of fairy tales”. Kinnaur stays under snow for a period of almost six months. It is famous for apples and orchards.

How to reach flora and fauna of kinnaur?
The most common fauna species of kinnaur are yaks and dozes. Small ponies and Himalayan black bear are also found here.

- Rakccham- chitkul wildlife sanctuary – Rakccham chitkul sanctuary is a popular attraction of kinnaur. Chitkul is the last village of india. This sanctuary is located at a height of 5500m. This sanctuary has a wide variety species of animals. The fauna includes blue sheep,black beer, leopard,musk deer, etc. the ideal time to visit kinnaur is from May to November.
- Lipa asarang wildlife sanctuary- This place is a heaven for solo travelers, people who love peace and solitude, very few people know about this place, so it is an untouched one. It is the beauty of this place. It is established in the year 1974. There is a wide range of flora and fauna.the dry alpine scrub and dry coniferous type of forest are the type of flora in the sanctuary.
- Rupi bhaba wildlife sanctuary- This beautiful sanctuary is situated in the lap of shrikhand mahadev mountains of the dhauladhar range. This place is covered with lush green forests, brown beer, black beer, barking deer, snow leopard, ibex, and blue sheep, goral, are the various wildlife species found here.
Kinnaur is well known for the roads that lead to the district. The roads that lead to kinnaur are one of the most dangerous roads. These roads have dangerous but scenic hanging cliffs. All through the route, the road has some really sharp and blind turns that make it risky to be travelled on one side you see cliffs cut to make the road and other side a deep gorge of Baspa River.
Places to be visit in Kinnaur
- Sarahan – Sarahan is the ‘gateway to kinnaur’ sarahan is famous for bhimakali temple. It is located near Satluj River. This place has got a special blessing from natures. Adjacent to bhimakali temple is the royal place, a heritage building. This place belongs to the royal family of former minister raja virbhdra singh.
- Kalpa- Kalpa is one of the biggest and the most beautiful villages of kinnaur. Lots and lots of apple orchards can be seen in kalpa. One of the main attractions of kalpa is sapni fort. If you are an art lover, you will love this place this fort was build in 1869 by raja padam singh. Another worth visiting place is narayan nagini temple. It is a traditional tibeten pagoda style temple. At the top of hills of chini village. This temple is dedicated to durga maa.
- Reckong peo- Reckong peo also called as peo by by the localities is a village, situated at height of 2290 metres. It is headquarter of kinnaur. You may plan a solo trip to reckong peo. For this you may “bike on rent from shimla and make this trip more enjoyable. You can witness snow covered peaks of kinner kailash from this town. Peo is the entry point of kalpa town. If you are traveling to lahaul spiti do not forget to carry fuel( diesel and petrol) from reckon peo.
- Kamru fort- Kamru fort is an old fort made of wood. It is just 2km away from sangla valley. It was built by the bushahr dynasty. One cannot enter the fort normally leather made. But if you still wish to go inside. You need to deposit your belongings outside, especially leather made things. Then wear kinnauri topi and saal waist rash. Both are provided at the entrance.
- Namgia- Namgia is beautiful village in pooh tehsil of kinnaur. It is situated at a height of 3047m, and on the banks of river satluj. Buckwheat is the major crop of namgia. There is a budhhist temple.
- Ribba- Ribba village, situated at a height of 3745m. it is also known as rirang ‘Ri’ means Pine nut and ‘rang’ means peak. This village is famous for pine nuts. Grape orchards and grape alcohols are two main popularities of ribba. This village is also famous for festivals like bish and phulaich which are famous worldwide.
- Nichar- A beautiful village on the old Hindustan-tibet road, located at height of 2100m. nichar is situated between the wangtu and taranda regions. Nichar is famous for natural water bodies and usha mata temple. You are advised to carry lighting device like torch with you. This town is experiences power cuts frequently. Do carry extra warm clothes with you.
- Rupin pass trek- One of the most classic treks of india. On every step of this trek, you find new scenic beauty, just after you walk around 20miles you will see Rupin River walking through the mountain beds. The trek takes you through villages of shiva temple and jhaka. Popularly known as hanging villages, as it is located on the edge of a cliff.
- Borashu pass trek-Borashu pass trek is a challenging trek which connects har ki dun valley is uttrakhand to baspa valley in himachal Pradesh. This pass is open for public only a couple of months before rainy season and few before winter strikes. This pass was a major route for trade between har ki dun valley and kinnaur in ancient days.
- Suicide point,kalpa- The suicide point is almost 3kms away from kalpa village. This place is famous for dangerous trench. All the way from kalpa to suicide point. There are beautiful apple orchards this place is so beautiful, that people forget how dangerous its route is.
- Sangla valley- The term sangla means pass of light. This valley receives through sunlight throughout the day. The distance of sangla valley from delhi is around 500kms and 350kms from Chandigarh. There are so many reasons to visit sangla valley. Few are mentioned below.
